I need my espresso with frothed milk in the mornings. After porridge. Over the years I’ve had several different kinds of frothers. There are the battery operated ones and the ones you operate by hand. Finding a manual one small enough for just one cup, or two, is also a challenge. In shops these tend to come in a practical 0,9 litre size. Fine for a family but a big cup for one person. The battery operated ones make a great froth as long as there’s enough power in the batteries. As the batteries get tired so does the froth. You have to find the right recycling place for batteries. In the end the frothers just die on you even if the batteries are fresh. And the dead gadget is electric waste and, again, you need to find the right recycling place. I tried to use re-chargeable batteries but the ones I had were just teeny weeny bit too fat so that didn’t work. I was delighted to find a manual frother in IKEA, years and years ago. They came in different colours. I have since kicked myself several times for not buying more than one, because for years they have not been available. Unless I want to carry it with me between home and the cottage I need two. This frother is great. It is light and can be used in many different receptacles. The froth is good. It is dishwasher safe and washing it by hand you just pump it in your washing up liquid. I have given IKEA feedback on wanting this back on their shelves but have not received an answer. Not even the standard thank-you-for-your-feedback-all-feedback-is-welcome. IKEA has gone electric. For quite some time I did carry it with me, back and forth, but eventually left it at the cottage. I couldn’t find anything sensible = smaller than 0,9 litres not operated on batteries so with a sigh I bought a battery operated one. Then I took a hold of myself and started looking for a small one without batteries. On-line I found one designed by Bodum, very pretty. I bought it and for a long time lived in fear of breaking the glass pitcher. Just a little while ago I did break the pitcher. I looked for a replacement but couldn’t find the right size. Another sigh. This time I found a little Bialetti Tuttocrema made of unbreakable material. Aluminium with non-stick insides. For 1,66 dl of milk. Just the right size. My mornings are saved. The results of this one-woman-consumer panel? I'd say the Bialetti comes first with its froth. The one from IKEA comes first because it can be used in practically any receptacle and the froth is good as well. The Bodum frother is very pretty but you have to be so careful with the glass pitcher. The electric ones? Nope. I would need a lot of convincing to get another one of those.

I couldn't agree with you more on this issue. I have also had the priviledge to visit Badger Hill and try the Ikea frother. I also share your dissappointment with the availability of manually operated frothers. I ended up buying a Bialetti cappuccinatore only to discover that the minimum amount of milk is too much for one cappuccino.. The aluminium one you referred to was a bit pricey, but I may have to invest in one..
